Vinalopó Corridor

Novelda, is situated in the centre of Vinalopó corridor, which has resulted in it becoming an industrial and exporting city.
During the Middle Ages the Christian neighbourhood was at the top of Mola, whilst the Moors lived in the present-day location next to the Vinalopó River. The main landmark in Novelda is the impressive church.

With the expulsion of the Moors and the loss of the military functions of the fortress the Mola settlement was abandoned for the location of the present-day.
The main economic activities are the production of marble extracted from the regions many quarries, saffron production and dessert grapes, the production of which required the Vinalopó to be channelled. A bagging technique to delay the harvest until the celebration of the New Year was also invented here.
